Club 40th Anniversary.

Who’d have thought after such humble beginnings our dear little club has made it to 40 years! We are the largest regional club in the society with nearly 60 members spanning nearly 250miles!
To celebrate we are having a little bit of a ‘do’ so a date for your diary and not to be missed is Saturday 30th September. The venue is North Alfordon Farm, Okehampton, by kind permission of Dudley and Stuart Luxton and their families. It’s going to be an afternoon and evening of fun and reminiscing! It all starts at 2.30pm and we have various activities going on with games, quizzes, stock judging, clipping and show prep demos, guess the weight, and view the herd of Luxtons Aberdeen angus cattle.
Our evening will end with a hog roast and some music. It really is going to be a wonderful day for everyone to catch up with each other and celebrate what a great club we have and members! We would so love this event to be well attended; the committee has worked hard to make this a success. The more people the merrier and the best bit is it won’t cost you a penny! To enable us to sort out the
catering all I ask is you book numbers in with me via email allaburyangus@aol.com <mailto:allaburyangus@aol.com> or telephone 07970 793838 no later than a week before. We can also cater for gluten free please let me know. Please feel free to bring along your own alcoholic drink should you fancy a tipple or two….soft drinks and teas and coffees will be provided.

Ties & Scarves
.

To commemorate our anniversary we are sourcing some ties and scarves to mark the occasion. Each membership will entitle you to either one tie or one scarf. Extras will be available to purchase if required. Attached is a form that needs to be filled out and sent back to me with your requirements. Prices will be £16 per tie and £18 per scarf. Alternatively I can be emailed on the above or telephoned with your requirements. These will be available to collect on the 30th September or at the Dinner on the 17th November.

Dinner
.

We thought we would continue our club celebrations with a Dinner at the Devon Hotel, Matford in November. 7.30pm for 8m.Tickets are £22 per person and I’m sure you all agree with me that we are looked after very well and the food is amazing. We are hoping that Alex Sanger the president may be able to make it down to us and introduce himself, but this is yet to be confirmed.
In the background I shall be running a slide show of photos of the club over the years-please if anyone has any photos of years gone by that you are happy to lend me to scan in then please get In touch! Bookings to me please as soon as possible. Please note the room for this Dinner will be wheelchair accessible.

Show Round Up
.

Life and work commitments have sadly left me a little slacking on updating everyone with the show results. I am happy to announce that the Angus classes have been well supported this year at most of the shows and we offer our congratulations to all of the prize winners so far this season.  Special mention must go to one of our new members Oliver Laity who
at 15 has recently joined us and he won the female championship at Royal Cornwall show this year! Well done Oli!
The Club was well supported also at the National Show at the Royal Three Counties and congratulations to both Andrew and Judith Denning and Oli Laity on gaining some first prizes! The Denning’s then made the mammoth trip up to the Highland where they
acquitted themselves extremely well where their cow Haughton Justine Erica was part of the reserve interbreed group of 5.
Our stalwart showing master Mr Hutchings has also been taking his fair share of the ribbons this year. Congratulations to you all.

Other News
.

Not much else to report at the moment as we are concentrating on putting all our efforts to ensure a great day for our anniversary event. Please come along and support us! A plea again to update me with the cattle for sale-the demand for quality young bulls is still very high and I am getting a high volume of calls.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 30th September and again at the Dinner in November. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any enquiry.

National Show Trip Update

Sadly due to a change in the time table at the Three Counties Show where the Angus judging now takes place at 9am in the morning we are unable to offer the coach part of the
trip due to the extra costs incurred. However we are still able to offer discounted ticket prices and accommodation for those who may be in a position to travel to Malvern
independently. The format would remain the same, a full day at the show on the Friday, take in the breed and interbreed championships on the Saturday to be followed with a gala lunch with the delegates.
To enable us to continue to organize this trip firm bookings and a deposit of £50 will still need to be with me please by the 17th March. lf there is not enough interest then the trip will not go ahead.

Due to rotation we have 2 members who are due to retire- Judith Denning and Chris Gleeson, both of whom ae prepared to stand for the Committee once more. We also have one vacancy to fill. We are a friendly bunch! We meet 4 to 5 times a year at Taunton and would love to have some fresh ideas to pass onto the members. If you are happy to stand, please let me know or come along to the AGM where a vote (if necessary) will take place.

National Show Trip.

Plans are underway to organize an overnight trip to the National Angus show which is taking place at the Royal Three Counties, Malvern.
More details will follow but the coach will have 3 collection points on the Friday morning-Bodmin, Exeter Services and Sedgemoor Market. You would arrive at Malvern at midday. The judging of the Angus breed classes will take place on Friday pm and you will also have the chance to meet and mingle with delegates who are attending the show as part of the World Forum. You will then leave the show ground to overnight accommodation before returning to Malvern the following morning to witness the Angus breed championships followed by the Interbreed championships (the Interbreed championships are being judged by one of our very own members!) There will then follow a lunch with the delegates before departing the show at approximately 2.30pm.
This is a very basic outline at the moment. We believe the cost will not exceed £125 per person. There will also be an option to book just the accommodation and ticket package.
To enable us to continue to organize this trip firm bookings and a deposit of £50 will need to be with me please by the 17th March. If there is not enough interest then the trip will not go ahead.
