Newsletter SUMMER yes I said SUMMER 2013!!

Well at last some glorious sunshine! Last year, the week of the Royal Welsh was about the only week of summer we had so I hope you’re all sitting in the garden enjoying it as hay and silage must have been caught up with!

We didn’t have bad weather for the 3 main West Country Shows although our ‘Summer Social’ at the Denning’s proved to be a little cooler and definitely a very windy kind of day! We were very pleased with our stand at Royal Cornwall and the professional boarding looked really good. A big thank you to the kind Members who gave up their time to sit on the stands, not just at Cornwall but at Bath & West and Devon County as well. The Summer Social was exactly that - very social and a big thank you to the Denning Family for an enjoyable day out.

Next event in the calendar is the Herd Walk to the Furzelease Herd at Tisbury Row, Tisbury, Salisbury, Wiltshire. SP3 6RZ on the 4th August. Only one Member has come back to me about a coach so I’m afraid if you want to go you will have to make your own way there but I’m sure it will be very worthwhile and a great day out. The day will start at 11am and please let me know by next week if you wish to attend. (gayle@bersey.fslife.co.uk or 01503240478)

Don’t forget that this year’s competition is a photographic one this year and the categories are -

1: Angus suitable for an Easter card

2: Comedy photo with caption

3: Hobbies: Taken by an under 16 year old

Please send them to me by the 1st September to Perdredda, 47 Morview Road, Widegates, Looe. PL13 1QE.

I having lot of inquiries for bulls at the moment so please let me know if you have any for sale so I can add your name to the cattle for sale list on the website and the list I send out to people.

We look forward to seeing you on the 4th August.

May 2013.

Summer is under way and we’ve already had the first couple shows of the year, well done to everyone who has showed and a big thank you to those that helped on the stand at Devon County. Congratulations To Colin Hutchings for winning at North Somerset and new Members Katherine and Dan Russell from Waterrow for winning Devon County. That brings me onto the first item . . . . .

ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW - for years my mum has been happy to man the stand but last year when it blew away she discovered that there is a show outside the stand which she wants to see! This will leave us with a huge gap to fill, Mum is happy to do Thursday morning when the showing is on but we are looking for keen volunteers to sit on the stand and chat to any perspective customers or members. It’s not difficult and all the info will be there so please come forward and help us out. We are hiring a marquee this year which is proving to be expensive so if we don’t get support then it could be the last time we have a stand at the show which would be a shame. I'm really hoping that the Cornish Members will come up trumps and keep this going.

More dates for the Diary:

28th - 31st May:          Bath & West Show

          6th - 8th June:              Royal Cornwall Show

23rd June:       Summer Social, Temple Farm, Chedzoy, Bridgwater, TA7 8QR by kind permission of the Denning Family. Start time will be 11.30am and there will be some 'socialising' and lunch will be provided so please let me know on 01503 240478 by the 14th June if you wish to attend.

4th August:                 Herd Walk to the Furzelease Herd of John Edgley & Sue Poulton at Furzelease Farm, Tisbury Row, Tisbury, Salisbury, Wiltshire. SP3 6RZ. We would consider a coach if enough people are interested, please get back to me asap.

At the Club’s AGM in April officers remained the same with Lisa Frain staying as Chairman, myself (Gayle Bersey) as Secretary and Gill Quinn as Treasurer. Colin Hutchings stepped down from the committee and Richard Ashenden stepped in. Thanks to Colin for his support and hard work over the years.

At our recent Committee I decided that due to increased work commitments I no longer felt I could do the secretarial job properly and notified my intentions to stand down at the next AGM in 2014. I thought this was an ideal time to tell you all so we  could get someone interested in taking on the role then they could work with me throughout the rest of the year ready to take on the job next April. Anyone who might be interested then please let me know. I have enjoyed my time as Secretary and met some lovely people over the years and will be a little sorry to leave it. The Committees have been a huge support and really help to get through it all.

I look forward to seeing you at these events.

Newsletter January 2013.

Happy New Year to you all and let’s hope it’s drier than 2012!

The first most important item is its subs time. At the 2012 AGM it was agreed to put the subs up to £20 a year. If you wish to be a Member of our Club in 2013 could you please fill in the enclosed form and send to me with a cheque for £20, my address is on the form. Anyone paying by Direct Debit could you please amend your payment and need only send back the form if your details have changed. I have also included your payment method to avoid confusion, the form should say whether you pay by annual cheque, standing order or you are currently not a Member.

This letter is being sent to all Society Members, but only those paying a Club subscription will receive future communications.

2012 finished in high spirits with the ‘Social’ at Tiverton Hotel at the end of November. Ruth Gay did a grand job at organising the event and we had a really good turnout despite the horrendous weather the night before. He seemed to have been really impressed with the cattle and thoroughly enjoyed his time with us. Results were as follows:

2nd: John Edgley and Sue Poulton, Salisbury, Wiltshire

3rd: Messrs Reddaway & Sons, Okehampton, Devon

Medium:

2nd: Ruth Gay, Watterow, Somerset

3rd: Trevor & Ruth Dawe, Lewdown, Devon

Small:
