South West of England Aberdeen Angus Club.
Newsletter Autumn / Winter 2015
Apologies for another Newsletter so soon but we have lots coming up and I wanted to get the information out to you all quickly. This will be the last newsletter of the year-the evenings are closing in and winter is just around the corner meaning another year is nearly over.
Subscriptions- As you will see we have decided to send out an invoice with this newsletter for 2016 subscriptions which will remain at £20. It’s easy to put the newsletter to one side and think I will pay that later (I’ve been there done that!) so we as a Committee agreed this is the way forward. For those of you who pay by standing order but have not yet amended it from the previous £15 you will find an invoice for the extra £5. Subscriptions can be sent to me Lisa Frain at Tregadillett House, Tregadilett, Launceston, Cornwall PL15 7EX.
A newsletter has been sent to everyone who is currently on the club website who may not necessarily still be a club member so I hope we can welcome some of you back! There will be a revamp of the member’s area on the website after 1st March 2016 to allow current members to continue to utilise the site to sell cattle etc.
Future Events:-

He will also be auctioning off our items which are detailed later in the newsletter. Tickets are £20. Bookings can be made direct with the hotel and don’t forget to quote the club to get your special rate. Please arrive at 7pm for a 7.30pm dinner.
Calf show: - Sadly due to lack of interest and entries the club will not be holding a show this year.
2016 Herd Competition: - Planning is underway, keep your eyes peeled after Christmas for more information!
Points Trophies-NEW! :-The Committee have decided that we needed to do something with the trophies that we have been donated and not using! Therefore we are giving a trophy to the best heifer, best cow and best bull using a points system based on wins and placings at shows in the south west that have held dedicated Aberdeen Angus classes. These results have been added up, the winners decided and will be announced at the dinner. Come along and see if your animal is the title holder!
Young person award: - Earlier in the year it was decided to award another trophy in Mary Smallwood’s memory. As you well know Mary was so supportive of all our young people. The rose bowl will be known as the Young Person award. The Committee will decide on a yearly basis to which purpose this will be presented under and to whom for a South west member under 25. However you as members will be given chance every year to put forward names and reasons why they should win.
This year it has been decided to award it to the highest scoring YDP competitor from the south west. This honour falls to Jake Sayer of the Denman’s herd. Well done Jake! This trophy will also be presented at the dinner.
Auction of Angus related items:-
Attached are photos of the items that we have been left by Mary. They will be auctioned at the dinner in November. Proceeds raised will be donated to a charity, yet to be decided. For those not attending, sealed bids are welcome to be sent to me beforehand. Telephone bids are not going to be available on the night. As you will see there are some exceptional once in a lifetime pieces that can be purchased. Sealed bids can be sent to me at Tregadillett House, Tregadillett, Launceston, Cornwal PL15 7EX
New Chair and Secretary! :- As you all know the Club sadly lost Julie who was secretary earlier in the year. I have been muddling through as both Chair and Secretary for a few months. At our last Committee meeting I suggested that Richard Ashenden (Big Rich to all of us!) step up from Vice Chair to Chair and I take up the position of secretary. Rich very kindly agreed and Andrew Reynolds from the Nanterrow herd, our new committee member was happy to take on the vice chair position.
So please any matters regarding the club can be liased though with me and I will endeavour to respond as quickly as I can. Hopefully with this new structure in place we will be able to do so much more for the club including extra events etc.
So the last word from me is-subs-are way overdue, pay now!! And I look forward to seeing you all at the Herd walk and the dinner.
Lisa
