Newsletters 2014

South West of England Aberdeen Angus Club,
Newsletter Spring (Apparently!) 2014.

Well I think everyone will be pleased to see spring arrive! 2014 hasn’t got off to the greatest start and our thoughts go out to anyone affected by these extreme weather conditions, it will take some getting over I’m sure. Well here’s some things to look forward to - a list if Club activities, the Committee would be delighted to hear your comments on future activities as they can’t organise what you want if they don’t know
J

So first off it’s AGM time and this year it has been amalgamated with the Dinner and will take place on  Sunday 30th March at the Tiverton Hotel. Everyone is welcome to the dinner, I know it’s Mothering Sunday but what a lovely gift for your mum to take her to the Angus Dinner and listen to Paul Jeenes afterwards - I know my mum is looking forward to it!  The AGM will start at 5pm followed by the Dinner and it will be my last event as Secretary so it would be nice to see Members old and new.
Tickets are £16.50 and must be booked asap from Ruth Gay on 01398 361225 (EVENINGS ONLY)

Anyone interested in joining the Committee or being Secretary then just let me know!

Committee Members and retiring dates for Members information:
Judith Denning & Chris Gleeson 2014
Ruth Gay & Stephen Cook 2015
Lisa Frain & Richard Ashenden 2016

At the dinner the photo competition prizes will be given out, there’s still time to get your entries in (at the moment I only have 2 lots)
1: Angus suitable for an Easter card
2: Comedy photo with caption
3: Hobbies: Taken by an under 16 year old
Email or post to me please (gayle@bersey.fslife.co.uk or 47 Morview Road, Widegates, Looe. PL13 1QE)

More dates for your Diary:

27th April: Youth Development Workshop at Ed & Claire Jones. Anyone aged from 8 to 24 that is interested in learning more about cattle handling and preparation should let me know, they don’t have to breed Angus so anyone is more than welcome to come along. Please let me know asap if you know of someone wishing to attend (01503 240478 or gayle@bersey.fslife.co.uk)

5th July: Herd visit to Gill & Kevin Quinn’s Maplejacks herd. More details to follow.

Sept: Biennial Herd Competition - Angus Stovold has agreed to judge and entry forms will be sent out in the Summer

We also will be having the stands at the three main west country shows so pop along and say hello, any help is always gratefully received too. Don’t forget the list of cattle for sale that we will give to perspective buyers and have on the website so if you have anything for sale then please let me know likewise if you’ve sold it then it would be good if you could tell me so we can keep the information up to date.

Anyone interested in receiving their newsletter by email then please let me know so we can save a bit of money!

Those of you that pay by standing order - may I remind you that last year the subs increased to £20 therefore your payments are out of date and there is £5 outstanding. We would appreciate the outstanding amount and ask you to amend your payment for next year.

South West of England Aberdeen Angus Club.
Newsletter January 2014.

Happy New Year to you all and let’s hope it’s happy and prosperous for all!

The first most important item is its subs time. If you wish to be a Member of our Club in 2014 could you please fill in the enclosed form and send to me with a cheque for £20, my address is on the form. Anyone paying by Direct Debit could you please amend your payment and need only send back the form if your details have changed. I have also included your payment method on the form to avoid confusion, the form should say whether you pay by annual cheque, standing order or you are currently not a Member.
This letter is being sent to all Society Members, but only those paying a Club subscription will receive future communications.

Also included with the Newsletter is a leaflet which The Club will be using to promote Aberdeen Angus and the SW Club on all the show stands and anywhere else we can think of! If you think you know of a good place then I have 2000 to get rid of so let me know! It hasn’t cost the Club anything to do and hopefully it will be good publicity for this area. The Cornish Times Group who have printed it are keen to do it again next year so if you want to advertise then give them a ring (the number is in the leaflet)

As per usual I must apologise for lack of communication about the Committee’s changes to the annual Dinner/Lunch. It has been decided to have this at the same time as the AGM so the Dinner will now be on the Sunday 30th March at the Tiverton Hotel. The AGM will start at 5pm followed by the Dinner and then we will have a speaker to just round off the evening. Tickets will be on sale nearer the time. This is the event where I can finally retire from my duties and hopefully you’ll get a Secretary with a bit more time for the job than me!

As we moved the Dinner we still haven’t had the photo competition so entries are still open:
1: Angus suitable for an Easter card
2: Comedy photo with caption
3: Hobbies: Taken by an under 16 year old
Entries will close on 15th March.

Also a note for your diary if you have any young people aged 8-24 looking to join in the fun of the Society's Youth Development Programme - the South West Workshop will be held on  Sunday 27th April at Ed & Claire Jones' farm in Cullompton, Devon. (we are also hoping to have one in Cornwall this year but as yet a date hasn't been decided!) More details about this programme from me on gayle@bersey.fslife.co.uk

Don’t forget that each year I like to compile a list of ‘CATTLE FOR SALE’ in the area, these lists will be available at the shows, will be on our website and I will send to anyone who inquires. If you have any cattle for sale it would be worth your while to let me know so hopefully we will be able to supply the demand that there is for Angus cattle. Please also let me know when you sell them so that I can take them off the list and then I am not giving out dated information.

Our website continues to get a good amount of hits so why not take a look. It is regularly updated with all the news and reviews, show results, cattle for sale etc. www.aberdeenangus-swenglandclub.co.uk
If you are a Member and do not want your information on there you will have to let me know.
