Harry is based in Calne in Wiltshire, further details will follow, and car share will also be available for those who wish to attend but not drive. Def one not to be missed.
Our 2nd confirmed date is the 28th September (Saturday) at the Artesian Herd of Alan Butt and family. Again, another opportunity to view a great herd. This will take place from mid-day onwards and further details will follow. Car share will also be available for those who do not wish to drive.

My First Newsletter Please Be Nice!
Hello - I would just like to take a minute to introduce myself, as some of you may know I have taken over the role of Secretary for the South West of England Aberdeen Angus Club from Lisa Frain. Lisa has played a massive role in the club as Chair and Secretary over the last few years and we would like to thank her for all the hard work. She will be a lifeline to me until I've learnt the ropes. With that said could you please direct all correspondence to myself.
So I am Becca, I am 28 and I have been around cattle all my life and have shown beef cattle for the past 7 years for various stock men. I am a manager at Crealy Theme Park and Resort in Exeter within the Commercial Department.
Enough about me, I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone (May make my life easier) Please do not hesitate to email me who you are and where your herd is from along with any stories or achievements and pictures that I could use for the future newsletters as I think it would be really helpful for everyone to come together as a club and share experiences.

Going Forward for 2019

As you are all aware we have stands at Devon County Show, Royal Bath & West Show and Royal Cornwall Show this year.  Devon County will be within the cattle lines situated by the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Stalls, there will be Hot drinks and nibbles provided after judging has finish.
Bath & West we have one of the side rooms which again hot drinks and nibbles will be provided by Judith Denning again, as she does such a grand job of this and we appreciate all the help.
Cornwall will be situated in its usual location (First left after the ramp), Barrie Turner the Chief Executive of The Aberdeen-Angus Society will be on the stand for the duration of Thursday & Friday, please take the time to go and say hello, and get all the answers to your questions! Most exhibitors will be up there for a glass of wine after judging no doubt!

If any one would like to help in any which way on the stand at Cornwall on the three days it would be much appreciated. Even just a few hours to keep Barrie company, there are tickets for anyone who can spare a few hours but this will be on a first come first serve basis.

If any of you lovely lot like to bake and would like to donate a cake or two for the stands at any of the shows that would be great as I CANT bake and wouldn't want to try!

Future events

After these shows there are two herd walks for 2019. First is on 30th June 2019 starting at midday from Harry Morely’s.
Second one is on 28th September 2019 starting at midday from Allan Butt’s.
If you wish to attend, please could you give me an email or a call, letting me know which herd walk, name and how many in your group.
We have invited surrounding clubs, so if there is enough for a coach or to car share I can certainly help with this.
Herd walks have become decreasing in numbers over past two years, lets see if we can get them back up again.

There has been talk that we should do some inter-club events, so if anyone has any ideas or clubs that they would like to hold an event with please get in touch.  I think having more social events rather than just meetings would encourage the younger generation to be more involved, lets be honest we need someone to follow in our footsteps.

Recent News
Minutes for the AGM on Saturday 13th April 2019.  To summarise Prince Charles Birthday went really well and we would like to thank everyone involved.  We had a stand at 3 shows, which all received a prize, many thanks to all those involved.  Would like to make a special announcement for Gayle Bersey for judging the herd competition you did a fantastic job and would also like to congratulate you on joining the committee.  That being said we would also like to congratulate Allan Eustace from Okehampton who has also joined the committee.
The calf shows over the winter months did really well and thank you to Judith Denning for finding and securing several sponsors, with both shows being won by CJ & JLM Hutchings, congratulations to Colin and his family.
We are going to have a breed stand at Devon County, Bath and West and Cornwall this year again, so if anyone would like to help out, in any shape or form, it would be much appreciated.

Another HUGE thanks must go to Nick Bersey for all he does for the website so please send him any info or changes that need to be done.
So we kick the Summer Show season off with North Somerset show, Congratulations to the Denning family with Breed Champion Temple Lolly Pop & calf at foot Lulu.  With Paul Westaway’s Melview Diva coming in Reserve.
Show Prep from Grace Denning, 13 years old

The last couple of weeks I have been preparing for, in my opinion the best time of year- SHOW TIME! Its been a very long winter even in the cold mornings power washing and blow drying, but I know its all going to be worth it.  Just recently I have been clipping them, this is my favourite part.
I’ve now started Young Farmers and went to the Somerset Rally, winning Champion Baby Beef with Temple Janey Erica- picked out by myself at home!
Then went on to win Reserve Supreme Champion Young Handler. So I have started my season off well, so much to say at North Somerset show we took Aberdeen-Angus breed champion with Temple Lolly Pop

Membership & Subscriptions
We had a committee meeting on 9/5/19. We have discussed about subs, as many of you are aware it is £20 per year to be a member of the SWAAC. Which the year starts as of the AGM. Some of the members are still on the £15 sub which will need to be changed as soon as possible please.
As I am new to all of you I am a bit unsure on who would like to be emailed and who would like to receive any information via post. If you could let me know so then I can make sure I reach everyone in the most appropriate way.

Data Protection
Also spoken about in the meeting mentioned above we need to put in place a new data protection form which is attached to this. Signing this form and consenting to the content will be our indication that you are happy for us to share your details on the SWAAC website and the yearly review. If this is not the case and you wouldn't like your details to be shared please also return the form stating that.
It is a legal requirement else I cannot share any news to you.

Just a Quick Newsletter for Upcoming Events & Results
Just a quick newsletter to keep in touch with you all and to let you know more details about the herd walks and the results from the last three shows.

Devon County Show was well represented by Angus Neish, Temple Farm, Lucy Pulsford, RJ & UM Vennor and CJ & JLM Hutchings. The show was a great success and the stand attracted many people. Big thank you to Alan Eustace for manning the stand whilst the exhibitors were running round like headless chickens showing there cattle.

Royal Bath and West Show wasn't as well represented but plenty of cattle to represent the Aberdeen-Angus Breed with CJ & JLM Hutchings, Angus Neish and Temple Farm Attending. Again the show was a great success and everyone had a great week. Big thank you to Judith Denning at Temple Farm for supplying us with food for after judging, also for supplying myself with a cheese sandwich at midnight before I went to sleep, shhhhh!

Royal Cornwall Show was heavily represented by W.Walton (Luxtons), MJ Collins, CJ & JLM Hutchings, JM k & F Hinkley and ID & D Rowe, with more than two beasts in each class which is fantastic.  Show day was a great success and everyone seemed to enjoy the day that being said the next few days were not as pleasant, lets just say I found my air bed floating when I went to bed on Friday night! Big thank you to Barrie Turner for sorting food and drink out on our very washed out stand had plenty of visitors the first day not so many the rest of the time but with high winds and the rain we had to keep the curtains shut to stop any damage to the stand, that being said we are talking about not having a breed stand next year and to book a few extra stalls in the cattle lines to man in the shed. (Let me know your thoughts).

All in all I was present at each show and I couldn't believe the support that Aberdeen Angus breed have, especially when there are other breeds out there slowly being forced into the any other breed classes with highs of 8 different breeds in there class.  If any one is wanting to start showing or has before but is out the loop please contact myself and I can point you in the right direction of where to go or who to talk to, we as members and AA owners need to keep this breed alive.
